Trampoline

He called me three minutes after I sent the email. "I'm excited for you; I'm rooting for you. I bet you are going to get more calls and texts like this." It had been years since we last spoke.

I received a text from a different friend twenty minutes later. Two more later that night. Another email. People wishing me well. People excited to see what I do next.

When I left the company I helped build, It didn't occur to me that there would be a response. Certainly not this one. The balance of good will that people carry for me is heartwarming. I'm grateful.

Maybe the lesson is to quit your job more often. Make a ritual of it. What's the point of a safety net if you never take a leap?

Mine feels like a trampoline.
