Just be you

A friend said, "I'm ready to see you take the muzzle off." I had just told him I was leaving the company I helped build. He continued, "You are one of the best communicators and public speakers I know, and you spend your days building charts in your basement. I'm not saying the work you've done is unimportant, but I'm ready to see you use your gifts."

He's not wrong.

I've been avoiding attention and burying my gifts for reasons I don't fully understand.

What am I afraid of?

Rejection is scary but inevitable. If I had the choice, I'd prefer you ignore my charts than my words. Data analysis doesn't require much from me.

Whatever is next will require a lot of heart. I will need to bring my whole self. Ellie told me it's time to let my freak flag fly.

I think she's right.
